    Overall rating

Olympus XZ-1, with is wide aperture lens is almost more than enough for that situations you can't bring your CCD sensor DSLR or for those situations even your Olympus E-P1 is too big. It has a clear LCD, bright and sharp indoors and outdoors. Many controls, like the ring on the lens allow you to find your own way to use it. The lens is definitely sharp and having IBIS adds to the possibilities you'd need in a travel. This isn't a 10-15x zoom camera but both the wide and tele ends give quite usable angles, as I hardly need anything wider or narrower on my DSLRs. Results are mostly sharp and colors are bright. You also have many settings to customize the output for your like. Still it is an old CCD camera and I wouldn't go much beyond 200 ISO, 400 ISO at most, and that is if I shoot raw and edit on computer for lower noise and more control in sharpening etc. As I still use Olympus Camedia digicams, I have gathered old digicam batteries and xD cards but frustrated with the need of a seperate charger for almost each camera I have. XZ-1 uses SDCards, has nice flat batteries those I also share with some of my Sony cameras, and charges its battery through USB cable, yay :) One less thing to carry with you on a vacation. Only downside for me is that may need some wrist wrap or a custom grip as for the hand grip is non existent. Still has a nice size, big enough to hold in your hand securely, and small enough to toss in some jacket pockets. My two other Raw capable digicam, Canon G9 and Nikon P7000 are just too big for this. I love my Olympus XZ-1 as it combines a good sensor, a sharp and bright lens, a quick processor and a good LCD, altogether.
