Description
The Sony Mavica FD-91 is a 0.8 megapixel bridge camera released in 1999. It uses a floating lens element which allows for a level of lens stabilization. Aimed at more serious photographers it features priority shooting modes and even manual focus. The camra is special in that it is one of the few cameras to use 3.5" Floppy Disks as storage medium. The quality of the images today are of course quite low, but the importance of the convenience of these cameras when they were released cannot be understated. To take an image digitally and transfer it to a disk reader every PC had meant you had photos almost instantly. They are affordable today, and external USB 3.5" disk readers are readily available.

Overall rating
I bought one of these for about $1,000 when it was introduced. It was my first digital camera. As long as you kept within its limits, you could create an acceptable image. The long zoom was its biggest feature, and that enabled me to create some nature shots that were acceptable. But, it suffered in low light situations, and with only 0.8 megapixels, you could not go very large with a print. Modern AI and editing software can improve the images somewhat. Mine died after a few years.. the screen went blank. Not worth repairing.
